Just picked up a fairly nice Firestone yesterday- good compression and complete. I know I’m going to have to replace the water pump and find a gas tank that fits, I’m just wondering where I might be able to find a water pump/how to replace it, where I can find a tank (single line), and if there’s anything I should look out for when I’m working on it. The gear select seems to be in good working order, as does the tiller throttle

February 26, 2017 at 7:15 pm #53576I had a pump rebuilt for my 53 Corsair by Brian Wilcox. He was great to work with and was reasonable. I have a box of cores that I have been saving to mail to him.

February 26, 2017 at 8:10 pm #53577February 26, 2017 at 8:37 pm #53578Thanks, I’ll definitely be emailing him soon. Where is the water pump on these motors? I’ve never worked on one before, and it looks pretty different from the OMC motors I’ve worked on
February 26, 2017 at 9:27 pm #53582The water pump is just above the lower unit. To replace the impeller remove the lower unit front cover, front gear with thrust bushing, and the shift rod nut. Later you have to replace the nut at the same position on the shift rod so take note of it. The lower unit then drops down and exposes the pump cavity.
February 27, 2017 at 1:08 pm #53605I’m sad to say the Scott guy has passed away. His son hasn’t made a decision what he will do with his parts last I heard. Anyone know anything new?
February 27, 2017 at 11:17 pm #53623The Scott guy and the person running that Flying Scott website are two different people.
February 28, 2017 at 9:23 pm #53648Are there any major differences between the 5hp and 7.5hp motors? There’s a 5hp for sale locally that looks like it’ll be a good parts motor, and comes with a bunch of new parts like coils, water pump kit, and a few fuel system parts
March 1, 2017 at 1:58 am #53660I will have to check, I know that the 7.5 is larger. (That sounds too simplistic of an answer, but I think the lower units are slightly different.) I have a 53 Corsair, and a 53 Golden Pennant sitting on my rack, I will see if I can get a better look at them to see the difference. If the other one is cheap, I would get it anyway. (that’s just me)
