I got my gaskets from Dan Gano yesterday. Great guy to deal with. I’ll be out of town until Sunday afternoon but hopefully I’ll get a chance then to start getting this old girl put back together. More to follow as things progress.

June 17, 2016 at 1:04 pm #38471I got about 10 minutes to work on this motor last night. I got the head back on and the exhaust cover baffle plate cleaned up. Hopefully tonight I can finish it up. Hope to test run it on the pond this weekend. I’ll see if I can get to the lake but gotta get it back up and running first.

June 18, 2016 at 11:37 pm #38549I got the Super Fastwin back up and running and made a test run in my pond today. 😀 It’s running great and staying cool! 😎 Thanks to everyone who helped out and thanks to Dan Gano for all my gaskets I needed to replace. He is a great guy and gave me a good deal on all the gaskets I needed after my overheat. I made a video of the pond run. I’ll post the link one it finishes uploading.

I’m so happy for you & the motor too. I own the exact motor for over 15 years. This one only weighs 67 pounds & runs so well never missing a beat. Your parts guy Dan Gano is super to work with. I too have bought from him a few times with great results. I like my Fastwin so much I have stored all the parts to rebuild it including oversize pistons, stock rods, oversize rings, all the gaskets, cooling parts, shift dog, & all the seals for the lower unit & gearcase too. So far it has just run so very well for me. I run it on regular gas from the airport & oil is OMC type mix @ one quart per 5 gallons, figures to about 20 to 1 ratio.
I had another Fasttwin a very long time ago traded for a Mercury KF7. Wish I still had both but I have nice examples of both again.
Good built motors!!! I prefer to deal with Dan too. I tried marine engine for Mark 30 parts & they said they had the parts, but 50% of the order was & is back ordered 6 or 7 months later.
JeffJune 19, 2016 at 1:02 pm #38583Hi Jeff,
Thank you. I’m very happy with how this motor turned out also. I do really like how it runs. I need to work on getting some of the slopes out of the throttle linkage sometime. That is really the only problem I have with this motor now. Going from full throttle to mid range is not a very controlled transition. I may get rebuild parts too. This motor had a lot of hours on it. Compression is still decent at 95 top and 92 bottom, but the cylinders do have some visible wear on them.So far I have only run this motor on 16:1 mix with ethanol free gas and synthetic blend TCW3 since that is what’s in my only good pressure tank until I get another one rebuilt. This is my first Fastwin, but I now have a ’59 18hp and 2 ’67 18hp’s that will most likely become one good one. The ’59 is getting a tune up next. I should get it finished up today. I’m looking forward to running it.
I have done quite a bit of businesses with Marineengine.com and for the most part have had good luck with them. I do like being able to help support another club member too and Dan seems to have better availability for the older OMC motors so I will get my stuff from Dan when I can.

Nice running motor. Gotta find one of those.
June 21, 2016 at 5:52 pm #38715David,
Thank you for the compliment on the motor. This one did turn out nicely. It took some time to get there but I did get there. I like this motor really well now. It has been loved before me too as it has lots of hours on it but it will get lots more now that I have it back up and running. I need to work at getting some of the slop out of the throttle linkage now. Transition from WOT to midrange is not too graceful right now. Lots of things need to be tightened up between the tiller grip and the mag plate.
