I recently acquired a 1955 Firestone 16 hp that I am on the fence on about restoring. My question is would it be worth it if I done a complete overhaul meaning new gaskets, rings, mags the whole works. I’m not so much worried about my time as I am just doing this for fun but also don’t want to shoot myself in the foot if I ever want to sell it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again

Firestones do not bring much. I had a nice complete original running 5hp at Tomahawk this year. Could not get $50 for it. Parts are challenging to find…. but that did not stop me from restoring one. You will probably never see a break even on it if you go in that deep. If you do it, just do it for love of the hobby and the pride you get every time you run it.

I must have 10 Firestones. Great motors as they are Scotts. They are bearinged like a Merc & very reliable. I would love to own your 16 if you want to trade for something Jeff.50@cox.net. photos please? What motors do you like? I’m building a dirty thirty now with Mark 55 block & pistons. 40hp Mark 30 is what I’ll end up with. That one stays though. Oh my Firestone 10 will run as fast as my KF7 or real close. The 16 is weird sealing the gears!
