Working on restoreing a very used and well worn 55 Sea Horse 10 HP. Will be neeeding rings and maybe pistons and bearings. Been poking around and coming up short, can anyone turn in the right direction? Also what is the paint color and where can I find the paint?

You could post an ad in the Classifieds section here on the AOMCI website for parts.

Paint colors are Seahorse Green with Cream trim, available at North York Marine or Vintage Outboard Paint.

Here’s the owners and parts manual to help you out. Some part numbers might be superceded to new ones but at least it’s a starting point.

What makes you think you need new pistons/rings? Do you have the powerhead apart? These engines are pretty durable and usually don’t get enough use to cause enough wear to warrant rebuilding…Unless, of course, there is obvious damage due to overheat/rust/low oil, etc.
If it actually does need rebuilding, the pistons and rods should be updated to the pieces used in the 1961 model year, which had larger wrist pin bores along with needle bearings….

Many of the most common tune up/water pump/carburetor parts are still available new/OEM….Used pieces shouldn’t be too hard to find for cosmetic items…

^You might try Dan Gano @ 712 336 3297 He has old OMC parts.

I did a compression test and came up with only 45 on No1 and 50 on No2, currently pulling her apart to see what other items will need replacement.

I would pull the cylinder head and intake covers….Maybe just some stiff rings from sitting around…Perhaps blown head gasket…It is important to know that these engines have relatively low compression…85PSI is “normal” for these engines.

Well opened her up and it is very ugly. Ring stick on no1. Bearings are all needing replacement along with seals and gaskets. Also need a shift link cover 303862, duck tape is not a fix. Also need two sets of rod needle bearings, 27-148. I’ll give Gano a call on the bearings.
