      quote Buccaneer:

Jeff Register graciously sent me a sample of his air conditioning Evaporator
coil cleaner and I’ve been soaking and back flushing the sintered filter for
the Evinrude the last few days.
I did a timed flow test using water before I started cleaning the filter,
pouring a cup of water in my funnel and marking the time when the
water quit running out of the carb body. After using the solution and
blowing air thru the carb body and filter (reverse of normal flow thru filter)
I gain a 25% improvement in flow thru the sintered filter.
I presume gas would flow thru the filter better than water.
The real test will be when I can get the boat back on the lake!
Thanks Jeff for you help and generosity!

      Bucc!

How did you get that carb body so clean? Inquiring minds want to know.

        Buc,
I’d say you are doing OK with the 15. 18.4 mph with 2 guys and gear isn’t too bad. You may pick up a little if you still have partially stuck rings and they come unstuck. I get about 19.5 and occasionally see 20mph with my ’54 SuperFastwin 15 on my Sea Nymph 14R withe just me and some gear in the boat. I’m about 250 myself. My 15 has about 87psi on the bottom cylinder and about 90 on top just for comparison.

Regarding the carb body, I had some OMC tuner /cleaner that someone gave me with
an outboard purchase. Soaking it for a day or two then scrubbing with a toothbrush….
          my wife’s, not mine 🙂
Will check the compression in the next day or two…. curious to see if the
          rings are still stuck.

          Prepare to be boarded!

            Buccaneer,
Thank you for keeping an open mind & trying the coil cleaner. As I said I have had great luck with it. I hope it continues to function as well.
You can remove the bypass cover to see if the rings are stuck. I have had a few 3.6 Firestone motors with stuck rings. I had to remove them & soak in Kroll to get them to even start to move. A mild hone & clean the ring lands & it ran great. My 1954 Evinrude still has factory rings & runs well. The OMC motors don’t run real high compression like the Mercs so you are good to go after a few runs hopefully!
