Hopefully I can offer some more clarification to this seal discussion.  I’ll see if I can attach the parts diagram and list for the 1956 Evinrude 30 HP model 25924 electric.  On the diagram the upper seal is #92.  On the parts list you’ll see item 92,  part number  303804,  upper bearing seal, qty 1.  Then directly under the 92 there’s an asterisk , the same seal number, and described as lower brg. seal, to motors 09000, qty 2. So these motors do indeed take 3 of the same seal. It’s too bad Evinrude didn’t show both options on the exploded view.

I seem to be having some challenges loading the 2 pages.

Hi Bob, I have looked at these bearing on Ebay and am tempted.  I think the bigger problem is finding all the other pieces. The seal is available but it’s the spring and related bits that I’d need are challenging, and expensive.  I saw a spring costing more than the bearing!!!!!  Al gave me a couple of member contacts I may reach out to.

Hi Ken, nice to hear from someone who knows how dangerous Lake Manitoba and Winnipeg are.  I did see some kind of message from you but it’s disappeared.

Rick – I may have a spring/washer/retainer ring assembly in my spare parts somewhere that I’d be happy to let you have.    Let me check the shop tomorrow and I’ll get back to you.

Thanks Bob. If I decide to go this route I’ll need 2 sets of the misc parts to do both motors.

For the top of the crankshaft you use one 303804 seal and it is lightly pressed into the top bearing.  For the bottom of the crankshaft you use one additional seal that also is lightly pressed into the lower bearing for a total of two.  UNLESS you go to the carbon type lower seal.  Carbon type seal replaces the  303804 seal .  With a carbon lower seal you will use only one 303804 and that is for the top of the crankshaft.

You will only use a max of two seals per motor, (never 3).

BTW 303804 seal is superseded by 321467.  I think the Sierra number is 18-2060 but the package will say if it is same as 321467.
