Michael, Here’s a link to download the whole parts manual. It was too big to load here so I used a service called WeTransfer. The link will be available for a week for anyone who needs to download a copy. https://we.tl/t-6gCY2Nfcw2
March 22, 2024 at 3:27 pm #286139A new problem on the QD18. I rebuilt the lower unit and installed it.
when I went to install the cowl the face plate where the choke and mixture controls are located, fell out of the cowling. It has a gasket around it but no visible attach points or fasteners. The gasket is brittle and cracked.
Does anyone have a solution for attaching the face plate to the cowl opening?

March 22, 2024 at 6:05 pm #286151You might try to contact Ben Breitner, as I believe he was reproducing
those faceplate gaskets. He’s on AOMCI on Facebook, but rarely
here anymore.Prepare to be boarded!
March 22, 2024 at 6:41 pm #286152Michael, I don’t see any other photos. And it seems that my pictures aren’t posting correctly either. Hopefully you can see them. I posted 3.
As far as attaching the face plate to the cowl opening, you don’t. It’s held on by the knobs but pushed forward up against the inside of the cowl by the springs behind it. The lower grommet that looks like a black top hat fits in the lower hole and helps center it. Do you have all the bits and pieces?

Some use various rubber trim to make them if you don’t care about being original and just want something to cushion the face plate up against the inside of the cover and prevent rattling. I tried one using bottom edge guard. And another one, I took 1/16″ rubber sheet and used the face plate as a template and cut out a piece and attached it to the front of the face plate with Seal All.
