Bob, thank you for the part numbers. I have my new wobbler pump ordered. While tinkering with my lower unit, I put the drive shaft back in and when I turn it, it does not turn the prop shaft. Shouldn’t it? Is there a trick to lining up the gears in the gear case with the drive shaft? I have pushed the drive shaft down and wiggled it a bunch but it doesn’t seem to be lining up or meshing with the lower unit gears. Any advice would be appreciated. I would like to make sure I have this lined up and working properly before I re attached the lower unit to the powerhead.

January 30, 2026 at 11:53 am #304101Group, when I put my drive shaft back in it is not meshing with the gear case gears and turning the prop shaft when I turn the drive shaft. I have wiggled it and pushed in but nothing seems to work. Is this normal? I don’t want to re-assemble lower unit until I feel like I have re-inserted drive shaft properly.
January 30, 2026 at 1:27 pm #304107The driveshaft should mesh nicely in the gearbox. Your motor is direct drive, (forward only – no gearshift) so the driveshaft and propeller shaft should always turn together. You could try disassembling the lower unit to see if the gear that the driveshaft fits into fell out of place. First though, try looking down the hole the driveshaft goes in with a flashlight to see if everything looks lined up to accept the driveshaft.

Thank you. I will try and let you know how it goes.

February 4, 2026 at 10:47 pm #304325So I got my drive shaft and gear case to align as I was reattaching my lower unit, but now I can’t get the bolts that hold the lower unit to the motor to work. The holes seem too big. See pictures. Should there be a backing plate that fell out or I lost? When I slide the lower unit all the up and put the bolts in the hole they don’t bite onto anything when I try to screw them in.

February 6, 2026 at 5:50 pm #304392Parts number are below the diagram. Not sure if the 1954
version uses the same wedge though, but there’s a good chance.Prepare to be boarded!

February 9, 2026 at 6:13 pm #304477Thank you! I have confirmed I have a 1960 3HP Sea King/GB. I am thinking my backing plate is at the bottom of my test barrel. I will drain tonight and find out. Fingers crossed.
