Update! Found my backing plate in my oil refuse pot. I put the lower unit back on and the wobbler pump is working perfectly!! Lots of water blowing out through the exhaust. Motor staying cool.
One issue I am having: when I was working on the motor my carb knob came lose and I don’t know if I put it back on properly. The motor is running but rough and the Carb seems hard to tune. Please look at these pictures and See if I put Carb knob back on in the right position.February 10, 2026 at 11:34 pm #304518Ellis – don’t know if this will help you or not on the carb setting but here’s some pics showing the carb on my ’57 Sea King. With the carb installed on the motor as shown in this picture, the carb needle was open a little over 1/2 turn from the fully closed position. It looks like your carb knob is installed correctly onto the needle, but you need to check to see how much the needle itself is actually opened from the fully closed position. On my motor, this needle open just over 1/2 turn is how I found it before I dismantled and cleaned the carb so I just put it back in the position I found it. The motor ran really smooth without having to make any adjustment to the carb once it started up. Did you remove and clean your carb?

April 8, 2026 at 10:44 am #314571Bob, I took the carb off and cleaned it and when I re-installed, I don’t seem to be getting fuel to the motor. The motor ran ok before I pulled it to clean but now, I can’t even get it to fire. I have good spark. I was very careful and took lots of pictures when disassembling to assure I reassembled correctly. It seemed pretty simple, but I guess not. Any suggestions. I will try to attach pictures.
