What’s the difference between ’67’ Tropic Green and ’68’ Forest Green? Is there much difference, one darker or have more sparkle?

The forest green is slightly darker with minimal metallic flakes. When sprayed new the metallic is noticeable, but on a seasoned motor it is so muted you can hardly tell it is there.

So the Tropic Green has more metal flake? I’m shortening an ’86’ Johnson 40hp tiller to 15" and the short mid must be from an Evinrude. I don’t like the light beige of the Johnson, so if I’m going to paint the Evinrude mid, I might as well paint it a color I like. Next thing is find a short driveshaft #0396811 and shiftshaft #0327366.

The tropic green does not have muck flake either.

              Beerman,
The metal flake it’self has many sizes & tints. Go to a body shop supplier to see all the available metal flakes. On my 1954 Harley I had huge pieces of flake applied. Not to worry though. I would never paint a bike apricot metal flake, Ha Ha!! The gun even requires different tips to shoot it. Also the flakes in the finished job will with time migrate to the surface of the paint & become brighter with age. My old 70 Nova looked silver from a distance until I washed it with Ajax as a finishing compound to remove some flake, more so here where it gets to 127 in the summer. The T.V. channels lie about how hot it is & here comes global warming. Being here all my life I can tell it’s getting hotter & weather is changing to more intense summer storms. Another post some day.
My last build a KF7 I had the top painted matal flake green but a guy couldn’t see the flake until it was 5 feet away. I told the painter I wanted just a hint of flake just to keep my motor a little different for theft protection along with other interior mods.
I never heard what happened to your Johnson getting it to run right. Tell me what the final issue was. Don’t forget pearl paint too. Another animal all together again.

The rebuilt QD that the leg was getting hot from the exhaust? I drilled a small hole at the very top of the water inlet in the mid, so it would spray on the side of the leg / cool the exhaust. It seemed to help a lot.
I remember it being in the 115 degree range when I lived in Phoenix when I was little.
I don’t want the "new" 40hp to look too good or too bad. I really don’t like the light beige color it is and the 15" mid I’m switching it to is dark Evinrude blue. I figure the ’67’ Johnson Tropic Green will go OK with the rest of the motor that I don’t paint.

’67 and ’68 actually are quite different colors of green. ’68 is darker

Wasn’t there an olive drab in the 60’s Johnsons, as well?
