      folks , picked up a 1970 johnson 9 1/2 hp motor and have not worked on this model before , when a pull on the starter rope it turns the spindle but will not move up to engage the flywheel. any ideas would be appreciated

        This usually happens when the spring, #49, isn’t hooked onto the pin sticking out of the plate, #48, or it has fallen off the bottom of the starter gear, #40.

              yes PIN number 47 was in place. Mumbles got me on track. Thank you
