it is right on the cylinder head near the depression for the round hood bumper on the Johnson hood.

I likewise couldn’t find the number listed anywhere and physically, it doesn’t look like any other I’ve seen listed for that year.

can you tell anything more from it’s appearance? When I look up the cylinder head listed in the parts catalogs. they look like this:

sorry – i need to clarify:
the Johnson head in the pic is a photo I snagged off the internet.
I have a 1955 25hp Johnson head at home that I’m comparing to the Evinrude. It is the correct green color and the exterior looks likes that pic of the red one in that it DOESN’T have the criss-crossing “fins”, for lack of a better word, that the Evinrude does. The parts books I have says they are the same part number so i assumed they should look the same but they don’t.

I’m replacing the Evinrude head because I stripped the spark plug hole when switching to NGK plugs last weekend. They seated a bit differently than the Champions and I stupidly stripped the bottom hole.
I’m just trying to replace the head with another one rather than doing the save-a-thread insert procedure.

I just want to be sure I’m not missing something here and creating a larger problem.
