from ottawa Canada ,just a question to all members .has anyone thought of making 3Dprints parts from old motors? i mean low compression motors such as the elto cub/mate should be relatively easy ,or any other parts for that matter that does not meet heavy force /tension .just a thought if not why?
October 2, 2018 at 6:52 pm #83885It’ll just take someone with the machine, skill, time, and desire to make whatever is needed.
October 2, 2018 at 7:42 pm #83889do you think there might be a market for it?
October 3, 2018 at 10:03 am #83914We are a club of, how shall I say, "frugal" people; so the 3D idea will not have much of a market unless it is cheap.
Long live American manufacturing!
October 3, 2018 at 3:03 pm #83928We are also into maintaining originality. If we cant get an
origin part we would want a reproduction made from the
same material.A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
October 3, 2018 at 3:20 pm #83929I watch TubalCain on YouTube some times (mostly on lathe work)
but he now has a 3D printing machine, and I believe he has used
the plastic parts he’s printed out for making molds, then casting
parts out of aluminum.Prepare to be boarded!
October 3, 2018 at 11:32 pm #83944There is a lot of work to 3D printing a part. Much more time than you will get properly compensated for! Not a good business model.

October 4, 2018 at 2:29 pm #83978For a one off part, yes, the time involved would be prohibitive. BUT, if it’s a part that might have some demand, once the files are set up, subsequent "printings" are much less involved.
October 6, 2018 at 1:43 am #84051Plastic parts are within reach, you can get them pretty cheap and printers with out spending a small fortune.
Metal parts are not there yet, they are expensive, harder to come by and a mess to deal with at this point.
