Gents,
The KE4 tank I have doesn’t appear to have a fuel filter in the tank at the fuel line connection. It has a smaller hole and only a simple brass male compression fitting to hook up the copper fuel line. Below is a comparison in the size of threaded hole between a KE4 tank and a KG tank. Is there a inner tank filter that can be used in the smaller KE4 fuel connection hole, or do I have to use a filter in the fuel line? I want to run new copper fuel line and wanted to avoid adding a filter in the line, but I’m not sure I have a choice.
Thanks,

May 4, 2016 at 11:22 am #35949I reuse the brass fitting but I make up filter elements out of brass/copper screening that I roll up around a drill bit and the solder the seam. I then use JB weld to hold it in place.
I do use a inline filter for a time until I am pretty sure the tank is really clean.
I fill the tank through a funnel with a screen in it to prevent more junk from entering the tank.
After each use I also siphon the tank empty and let it go into my portable tank through the funnel with a screen.
Pretty soon the tank is squeaky clean and then I rely on the home made in tank filter.

Yes some came with the screen. If you get a dirty big filter put it in a pill bottle & use air conditioning evaporator coil cleaner to soak it in. It will come out very clean after changing the fluid a few times. Let it cook for 24 hours before flushing it out. I use water to rinse it out. All I ask is for someone to try it. I have had very good results!. I also use 2 stroke in-line filters made for chain saws too. Compact & fits anywhere. If you like the bigger filter the tanks swap too.May 4, 2016 at 10:08 pm #35995Thanks for all of the replies, guys. That’s a pretty nice homemade option, David. Do you get your screen from McMaster Carr? I also have a line on a NOS, filter. Now, I’ll have to figure out which option my wallet will prefer! 😆
Good tip on the evaporator coil cleaner, Jeff. I’ll definitely keep it in mind.
Appreciate all the help!
JPMay 4, 2016 at 10:34 pm #35998I have gotten mine from Ferguson Poole Marine. Very reasonable, so reasonable never been worth it to make my own.

JPJason,
That filter pic is not one of mine but is representative of what I have done. I did get my brass screen from McMaster Carr. Nothing to it.
