      Any time I replace coils, I completely strip down the mag plate. Years and years of crud fouls everything in there. You can get away with re-using spark plug wires, but you need to trim off 1/2 inch off of each end, or you will have this exact issue here. It’s best to just go ahead and put new wires on, but lots of people cut corners and just shove the old wires back into the new coils and hope that it works. 😀

        First I would make use of a meter. Need a Merc o tronic to check the magneto parts. Be sure everything is very clean, then open the shroud & run it at night. You are looking for sparks from bad wires too.
        Good luck & check every part with a meter as you assemble the magneto!
