any chance the purge valve cover is loose or leaking ?
PH base gasket broken near the purge output to the lower unit ?

October 6, 2022 at 11:05 am #267156OK, here is what I’ve decided. The crankcase puddle drains drain into the area marked in the picture below. That also is the place the shift shaft passes thru. Also, note that the shift shaft on this later model has #32 & #33 O-rings on it. Those O-rings are not shown on the 1959 screenshot that I posted earlier. Methinks the O-rings were added for just that reason—puddle drainage blowing out through the shift shaft bore.
Bottom line is puddle drainage is normal and intentional. And it is not harmful because it is normally headed for discharge out the underwater exhaust anyway. Maybe a tad messy for your tastes but not much to do about it without major efforts.

I think I’m going to run her a little bit more and see if she “heels up” a little and go from there. I don’t have much experience with these old motors so maybe I’m trying to fix something that isn’t entirely broken. Again, thanks
