      No. 1 coil = rear = center terminal = white = fires 1-4-5
      No. 2 coil = front = side terminal = brown = fires 2-3-6

No matter what combination I use, I can’t get 2-3-6 to fire. With the side terminal in place, 1-4-5 fire no matter which set of points (white or brown) is attached to a coil. With the side terminal removed, I get sparking sounds inside the cap but no plugs firing. . The whole assembly is on the bench. I’ve tried different cap and rotor. The capacitors are w/in spec. I set up the points with the plate but it starting to look like it has something to with the points – maybe they are wired backwards or timed backwards. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure the coils are good? How did you check the caps? How about the resistors, wired correctly? Different motors are wired differently & they must be in the circuit to function. Did you use a degree wheel to set up the points opening & closing times. Very important to use the degree wheel as the coil saturation times MUST be right on for a good spark. First thing is to find a degree wheel. Which 6 are you working on, a DR? Please e mail me & I will send you a copy of my degree wheel. How are the shaft seals? Many have leaked & shorted out the ign points. These points are tricky the first time to get correct. You are missing grounding maybe too for a current reverse to fire that way. E mail me jeff.50@cox.net.., I’ll help you get it 😉 correct.

Thanks – I did all the above but must have reversed the dwell procedure – apparently I treated number 1 points as 2 and vice versa. I did use the correct degree wheel and the distributor itself has been totally rebuilt with new seals, new bearings, points, cap and rotor, etc. Works perfectly now (!). Thanks, Steve S
