In my search for an Eisemann coil for my ’37 Champion, the only sources I could still find for these Maytag coils are either Flywheel Supply or Mark’s Carburetor & Magneto Service (Maytag Mark).

When I initially contacted Flywheel Supply directly, they wouldn’t sell me a coil when I told them I was needing it for an outboard motor.   In addition to Maytag coils, Flywheel Supply also has some Wico coils.

Mark’s Carb & Magneto has a Facebook page but I don’t go there.   I ended up getting my coil thru Bob’s Small Engine Repair who happened to have one of Mark’s coils on hand.

A while back, someone (Mas?) posted success using a John Deere Pony Coil in a Lauson Twin.  I can’t find the details, it might have been on the old board.

Also, any chance you could stuff two of these on the original laminations?

A last resort would be to keep the original Lauson primary winding in place and mount a couple of OMC universal coils somewhere else on the motor.  Wire the three primary circuits in series and you might get lucky.  I’ve done this with one OMC coil and a Bendix Scintilla primary and it worked, but I’ve never tried two on the same primary.

I know that the John Deere pony motor coil will work in a Lauson, however the armature  laminations have to be cut down to fit the core… I think from 5/8 to 1/2 ” square. The coil on flea- bay appears to have the larger, proper size core.

I did a coil swap in a lauson twin, not sure what model but the JD pony coil was a direct replacement.  No modifications required as I remember
