February 8, 2021 at 1:47 pm #229913Go to Newark.com. It’s a mail order warehouse & they stock Visay capacitors. Part number, that is newark’s is 84R4390 for a .15 cap. Last time I bought they were $1.21 each.
Model vishay is MKP 1839 for this series, cap range 0,1uf to 3.3 uf, AC voltage rating 850, temp rating 85 C , dielectric polyproplene, Be sure it has the suffex HQ for the 850 voltage rating. I spoke directly with a Vishay rep to get this data. They are on the web under Vishay Roden
PS they offer in two configerations so be specific when ordering.

Possibly you might give me a call @ 770-597-5992 about the condensers.

Contact Joe Poole about any Mercury parts. His Dad was a dealer years ago & Joe has many new old stock parts.
JeffFebruary 11, 2021 at 11:24 pm #230272Hello Robert:
Here are some of the capacitors we have used with good results. The AOMC article written on the subject are and excellent synopsis. We have used the polypropylene film Orangs Drops for years with no issues. They are designed for spikes of current that will appear when the points break. The 400 volt rating is sufficient. 600 Volt rating is more robust but physically larger and may pose a mounting problem. They come in .15 and .22 Microfarads. They can be sourced from Antique electronic supply. Another one we like is made by CDE. It has axial leads(coming from the end of the device) and is easier to mount in a tubular space like the pesky condenser used by the Eisemann RC/RT magnetos used by Cattypillar. The part# 942C6P15K-F is a high performance .15 Microfarad 600 volt device also designed for spike currents. The part# 942C6P22K-f is a .22 Microfarad 600 volt device. We sometimes take the old condenser, slice the end off and pit new innards inside, especially where space is tight. Hope this helps.

February 12, 2021 at 6:01 am #230283The condenser discussions are always so painful for me. 99.9999 percent of the time, the original condensers don’t produce fire because they are old and have internal leakage. I know the EXACT rating helps to keep the points in good shape but for the amount that we run these things, like the post office used to say, “If it fits, it ships.” A brand new condenser that physically fits, is going to make the engine run every time. I can’t tell you how many times I have put an automotive condenser into a Bendix mag, having no idea in the world what the rating was, and have the engine run as it should. I have used something like the link below and lengthened the wire, a bit. It’s under the flywheel, so who the heck is going to see it? It is so unbelievably simple….Sorry; now I know that I will be forever disregarded; but I don’t care….

Long live American manufacturing!
