Anyone need Bendix / Sintilla coils go to E Bay & 134607308452 for single fire coils with  a condensor for 69.00 & Dual fire coils for 15.00 134619220048.

Not trying to sell but there was a KD4 Mercury looking for coils for his motor & now I can’t find his post. Either coil can be used but the dual fire needs the one spark plug terminal grounded to function. Plus anyone needing coils for a Chris Craft outboard these fit it too. In fact that is why Chirs Craft outboards went out of business. Copy wrrite infringement, built too much like a Mercury outboard. Happy 4th too!

While these coils will work, one should be made
aware that they are not a direct replacement.
The point where the sparkplug wire attaches is
located off-center, compared to the original
        Sintilla coils.
This puts the connection pointing out toward
        the flywheel.
Some imagination is required as there isn’t
room for the plug wire between the coil
and the flywheel. I believe the Buccaneer’s
        solution included a bicycle tube.

          Tubs,

You are correct they need some mods for the dual fire less expensive coils. I have used radio controlled model airplane fiberglass cloth, very thin material. Put a strip on the outside of the coil & secured with corona dope. Corona dope came out in the 50’s for super insulating liquid for flyback transformers for the high voltage scanning beam for blck & white T.V.s. The flyback output had a bad habit arcing to grounded surfaces & the corona dope cured this. It insulates up to 3500 volts with one application.

After putting a layer of thin fiberglass cloth using a number .16 gauge stranded wire add another layer of corona dope & layer of glass cloth a guy can “clock” the termimals correctly. Ive done this in the past & made dual fire coils into single fire coils by grounding one output terminal with a much hotter fire as the dual fire was made to fire two spark plugs & has many more secondary windings than a single fire coil.

It’s a less expensive coil too. The corona dope can be bought at M.G. Chemicals in a very small container & looks like clear fingernail polish. The very thin fiberglass cloth can be bought on line at a hobby store or on line. M.G. Chemicals no longer call it corone dope As something to do with the word “DOPE” means something “different” than in the 50’s. The thin glass cloth was applyed to R.C. airplanes used with resin to support the bulkhead areas for engine mounting surfaces. Saves much money & can build custom coils for less money & twice the fire.

I knew this would come up but can be modified to purpose. I helped another guy on Johns Old Mercury modifiy his Bendix \Sintilla KF7 & it performed very well at all speeds. Take a look at M.G. Chemicals on  line for super insulating coatings please.P,S. Be sure to change the capacitors to match the new coils too. :)!

P.S. If you can find SE-10-56146 Niehoff brand points they fit Bendix too, used in aircraft magnetos too.

good information Jeff.  I bought some Super Corona Dope it cost more for the hazardous shipping charge than the Dope. I’ve got some two output coils but will try to repair the Scintilla coils as they aren’t cracked too bad.

Thanks, See if you can find some R.C. airplane fiberglass cloth too. It helps reinforce the repair. It is thin  as womens nylons & also insulates too. I’m glad I could help you. Last time I bought from M.G. Chemicals there was no hazard shipping. More hidden fees!! Try a hobby shop on the way home from work for the fiberglass cloth that sells & deals with radio controled model planes, the cloth is inexpensive.

I bought a coil and condenser from Big Rich on eBay for my KD-3 project. Frank Erion told me he has some Scintilla coils. Joe Poole at Ferguson-Poole has Scintilla coils and points.

                  John,

I’m glad you dealt with Joe! I’ve known him for years now, great guy & friend. I’m glad you found your parts for your project. I never asked him if he had coils, It just never came up. Good luck with your project!!
