Changing shock on CD12. Iam using one from a 7516 7.5 hp. The gear on the bottom of the shaft on the CD is 15 tooth. The gear on the 7516 is 12 tooth.Just wondering if it matters which gear i put back on the shaft. Thanks Russ…

Yes it matters. The gears are matched sets. Keep the sets together. . . 🙂

Hmmm, never knew there was a different gear ratio….

The 12 tooth gear isn’t right. Both of these motors should have 15 tooth pinions along with 26 tooth forward and reverse gears.

I can find a 276903 for the ’51-’53 Fleetwin pinion gear, but only pn 376235 for the complete gearset in ’54 (7516?). From ’55 on the gears are the same for Evin and Johnsons (pn 304009).

The Parts Book shows a 304009 pinion for the ’54 7516 Evinrude thru the ’58 7525 model so ’54 must have been a year of change for the Fleetwin. The earlier 276903 gear is a totally different looking gear with square cut teeth and resembles a later Fastwin gear.

Hunn’s book list 7514 and 7516 as ’54 models. Apparently there were changes made..My semi-official Evinrude service parts manual only lists the gear set for ’54 Fleetwins, it does not break out individual gears. Maybe they forgot by 1971 (date of the manual) lol
