working on a Johnson 1946 2.5 HD25 thats been in attic for 50 years. It has a bad coil and im wondering if anyone out there has found one to fit the motors armature as it is very short as the old coil is only 1 1/8 inches long. Thanks Dave R
Define bad coil, those generally are good, most often the points need attention, and be cautious of the points, they are tricky to work on. I have the ring to reset the coil back to its original position
From my experience they had two windings, primary & secondary windings. They are different from later coils having a ground wire from each coil if that helps bond both.
These are the grounds for testing this coin. There is no substitute for this coil that I know of. Be careful handling it as the points where the wires attach will become loose if the wires are moved to much.
A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
