Resistance on 1931 lightwin coil on 20K scale is 2.75 .Is that number OK ? Other motors I have are in the 6.6 range. Thanks Tom

I’m not sure of your motor but the resistance is enough to make fire. How much resistance is the primary winding & how good are the magnets. Just compare to a 50’s motor flywheel

I’m assuming that the 2.5 is accoss the secondaries and not secondary to ground or across the primaries. For a coil from an opposed twin with magneto ignition of that age I would expect a good coil to have 6 – 7k ohms plug lead to plug lead and infinite resistance from plug lead to ground. I,ve seen coil with more resistance than the 7k work well.

Most good coils are in the range of 1k to 10k or 1 to 10 on a 20k digital meter scale. All values in this range will work fine. Some OMC 30s opposed twin coils have up to 15k and they work fine at that value.
