Open a disput with Ebay
not as advertised
Ebay always pays for returns
on my disputes! 99% of the time EBay will side with the buyer, it’s the way the EBay system works! 10.000 sellers and 1 buyer EBay does not work! 10,000 buyers and 1 seller EBay works!
Good Luck
April 24, 2023 at 7:53 pm #275550How do you know one piston is scored on this ebay powerhead??
April 24, 2023 at 8:11 pm #275551I had a similar situation with a used gearcase one time. The seller advertised a “good used gearcase in great condition, turns and shifts normally”. When I received it, the driveshaft could only be turned using a pipe wrench on it and it would barely shift gears. When I opened it up, the gears were all chipped and broken. The seller gave me a hard time so I went direct to EBay, filed a complaint and got a full refund in less than 30 minutes. eBay has always been good at resolving disputes like this.

Bought a small Scot atwater fror the shafts & gears. It had no reverse gear & forward was welded to the propshaft.
DefinTLY go to ebay & complain. They can shut him down for good!!

April 25, 2023 at 9:36 am #275574I bought this powerhead which is missing the intake cover (attached the picture of original listing picture). When I move the piston #2 at TDC, I could see this score at the bottom of the piston through the intake opening, I mark X is the length of the score. In my opinion, I am sure that the seller saw this score and did not disclose it in the listing since the intake had removed.
April 25, 2023 at 9:49 am #275577Yes, the buyer pays for the return! Anyone could identify the core plug part number #R852690? Is it 9.9 hp or 15 hp originally. I know the last letter is the year of 1990. I have asked the seller but I did not get the straight answer.
I usually go by the freeze plug on the engine block to see if it’s 9.9 or 15. Should be able to check the freeze plug for the model number if it starts with e10 or j10 it’s a 9.9 or e15 j15 will be a 15hp. Hope that helps April 26, 2023 at 12:46 pm #275629OK, I see the score on the piston, does it extend into the rings? Are the rings jammed/stuck as well? This is powerhead is from a salty dog, probably better off sending it back. Removing the head and exhaust cover would help tell the tale, but the bolts are probably stuck. That number on the core plug is the serial number only. Powerheads were the same for the 9.9 and 15hp in those years anyway.
Is this purchase covered by ebay’s buyer protection plan? If so, I would remind the seller about this and ask him again to pay for the return shipping. If he refuses, and the purchase is covered by ebay, I would simply report it to ebay.
April 27, 2023 at 9:22 am #275646I send the seller a message today
Hello,
I use my company high precision gauge (made in Germany) to calibrate the Festo regulator which allow to dial in any pressure range ( 0-10 bar). I check it against my air compressor gauge as well. All of them in spec within +/- 1.5 psi. So for the nature of this test, this tolerance is acceptable. Then I hook up each my compress tester gauge to this system and check the pressure range from 10psi to 90 psi range with 10 psi incremental range. My compressor gauge shows 90 psi, my Festo regulator dial to 6 bar or 88.2 psi and the compression gauge shows almost 88 psi. I also perform the test to other my compression gauge, the junky Chinese shows only 75 psi while the true pressure is 88 psi. I also bought a brand new gauge in the picture to verify and that proves my 15 year old gauge is accurate. Then I use my 15 year old gauge to conduct the test on your powerhead again with some WD-40 to mimic the time you test (as per your statement to defend 120 psi/120 psi result that the time you tested your powerhead may have oil residue on the cylinders so it gave higher compression). It shows the same number before.April 27, 2023 at 10:47 am #275656
As an observer I see 3 possible scenarios.
Seller wasn’t truthful.
His gauges are not accurate. I think you demonstrated that yours are.
His compression test was done at different rpm than yours.
All the drills I have are 2 speed.
Low speed is too slow to give an accurate reading and high speed
would give an excessively high reading.
As I don’t know how the both compression tests were done, this
variable doesn’t allow me to support either side.
