I picked up a nice 7.5 Fleetwin at the the Midsouth meet a couple weeks ago and ruined the paint on it today. For some reason I put a full strength cleaner instead of diluting it. I am sick. Got it running then decided to clean it up. Sheesh. It was the nice Easter egg color. The starter and tank look awful now. I had the side and front panels off and they are still nice. I don’t know what I was thinking. Not my first time but made a first timers mistake. I am depressed.

Look on the bright side, you can learn some new skills…..Painting.
September 6, 2016 at 2:58 am #43401I do need to learn to paint. I hate I messed this one up though. It is gonna look goofy for sure if I leave it this way.
I hope I get it running well. If I can I will decide what to do, if anything, about the paint. It idles down pretty well but isn’t doing well over about 1/2 throttle. Running way too rich I guess. Smoking like crazy and lots of unburned fuel dripping out after I shut it down. Needle adjustment needs tuning I suspect.
September 6, 2016 at 9:25 am #43409What sort of cleaner were you using?
September 6, 2016 at 1:26 pm #43415Have you run it on a boat yet? So sorry you hurt a good paint job. I had a boat shipped from Wisconsin to here in Arizona & someone punched a 2" hole about 12" below the rub rail. Seems we both have a new now damaged marine unit. Oh mine is a nice Scott Fisherman 62 boat. It will get fixed too like your paint. You never told us comp readings, how are those please?

Just getting started with it really. Compression was 82/80. Spark was jumping 3/8.
