Early Mercury paint finish for knobs

Can anyone tell me how to refinish these knobs? This does not seem to be paint or at least not typical paint.

What do you good folks use??

Anodized aluminum.

After polishing spray with several light coats of transparent
candy apple red. Pretty close but not as durable.

tubs I got the idea from you and used it on my 58 Evinrude 35 hp where the chrome is actually painted red in a thin stripe. It worked great. Kinda pricey at advance I believe is where I got it

You can get small spray cans ( Testors)
used for painting model cars, planes, and the like.

I use nail polish from the dollar store  for touch ups  on motors and…cars     ….. lots  of shades available  …you can even  mix  colors

I have red spray paint but I thought that that paint looks way too thick on the knobs. To me, the original color on the knobs looks very thin. I don’t know how to “anodize aluminum” so I was hoping there was a spray paint that would very closely match.

The red transparent or translucent paint is what your looking for it has a “chrome red” lid. Advance has it or as tubs said restore brand model car paint of same color
