The fuel mixer (carburetor) has no butterfly to control air/fuel mixture.
You could consider it wide open all the time and has no effect on
controlling the speed of the motor. The speed is controlled by advancing
or retarding the timing with the "timer". Getting a flywheel that
"advances the timing" would only change the position of the timer
from its normal running position if the motor would run at all
depending how far it would move the timers location for the motor to
start and run. I don’t know if the Quad flywheel timing is the same or
different than what you need. I would try a single knob service Speedster
flywheel if you want to get it running. I don’t know for sure that the timing is
the same so it will work but there are plenty around so I’m sure someone
would let you borrow one to try. Having a water pump may take away from
its performance slightly compared to a service Speedster. I have 2 service
Speedster’s and on a 12" V bottom aluminum boat one will do 18 to 19 and the
other 19 to 20 mph. I really enjoy running them and they are fast enough to
make a good breeze if you know what I mean. This is the slower one but
I have added extra baffles to the exhaust to quiet it down a little.

May 9, 2018 at 9:06 pm #75650The 905 uses a ‘29 Quad flywheel. A Speedster flywheel is a different size crankshaft and will not work. The high speed versions of the Speedster, ‘28 Quad and ‘29 Quad were made with flywheels having seven degrees more advance. The 905 Special Speedster will benefit from using a ‘29 Quad high speed flywheel. But…lots of luck finding one. I ha
ve been looking for some time with no luckFred
May 9, 2018 at 11:54 pm #75654The only way I can see that it could be of any benefit is
if the gas tank blocks the timer from getting full advance
with the stock flywheel. Please explain.A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

No worries, its the sort of conversation that I like to see kept going.

defiantly have a negative on effect performance.
I didn’t realize the Service Speedster and the High
Speed Speedster had different crankshafts.
Learned a lot. Thanks for responding.A "Boathouse Repair" is one that done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
May 10, 2018 at 3:52 pm #75690The Speedster and Hi Speed Speedster have the same crank, the flywheel advance is the difference. The 905 Special Speedster uses ‘29 Quad hi speed cylinders, ‘29 Quad flywheel…..with a crankshaft having a larger taper to fit the ‘29 Quad flywheel, Senior Speedster muffler and ‘29 Quad lower unit. Sorry if the crankshaft for the Speedster got confused.
