      I can’t seem to find the oem OMC part # for the point sets and condensers to fit a 1955 Evinrude 25 hp Big Twin and a 15 hp Fastwin?
      Any help would be appreciated.
      I’m looking for quality points and condensers.
      Thanks,
      John

            I think the best way to buy these parts is in the tuneup kit #172522. You get two #580148 points sets, two #580321 condensors, & the oiler wick. ME has them on sale for $21.99 at the moment. Definitely the cheapest way to get everything you need. IMHO

              Dan,
              Thank you for the part number as that fits any motor I own except the 1948 motor. Is that the newest number?

                Jeff; That is the latest number. There are other numbers #172521 for a single cylinder engine (same components). Other tuneup kits #172523 have different condensors #580419, but they were used with #580297 coils which don’t exist any more (unless they are in your engine already). I never did understand the difference! FrankR has the story, but we have talked about that before. I personally won’t use Sierra points (alignment problems). Don’t know of any problems with their condensors?

                  Some more information. BRP sells these same parts under a different part number also.
                  580148= 777677
                  580321= 777678
                  They call this OMC SysteMatched parts and these are sold through dealers that are not a "authorized" dealer. Similar to Mercury’s Quicksliver parts. Same but different part number.

                    RMHXRuss; You are partly correct in that the parts are called OMC SystemMatched Parts & the same exact parts. Ironic since OMC went brankrupt in 2000! BRP has seen fit to sell parts to various Marine distributors who then sell the parts to their dealers. I worked for OMC & now am one of those people who can buy parts this way.
                    The reason the tuneup kit is a better buy than the individual parts is because of the discount given on parts vs accessories to the seller. We will take me for example. If I get 35% off retail on an item (parts) then I probably get another 10% off an accessory. Kits are accessories where each individual part is not! Water pump kits will often be cheaper than just the housing.
                    OMC/BRP tuneup kits come with everything you need for the job, including the oiler wick (one in each points set). You get none in Sierra parts! With MarineEngine selling the kit for $21.77 "On Sale" at the moment you can’t buy the points (OEM) for that. The condensors are "FREE"! Why would you buy these parts any other way? Even Sierra parts cost as much & you don’t get the oiler wicks or the quality points sets. Just my opinion, I may be wrong.

                      Aw, don’t ya know that all those points are made on the same assembly line?? Just kidding ! he he he! Agreed, the Sierra points are very poor quality. They are built very sloppy at the hinge point, and won’t hold adjustment. The condensers seem to be ok… I’ve used them, but prefer OEM. When I think about having to pull a flywheel again, using OEM makes sense. I just hope BRP will continue to supply this stuff into the future. If the demand is there, they will I’m sure. Speaking of breaker points, I always use Quicksiler points in my old Mercruiser engines. A year or two ago, I ordered in a set for a Delco dist. and noticed they are now made in China! they were the same as the other cheap made points, would not hold adjustment. I found some Borg Warner ones made in Turkey, that were good, and ended up using them. Now I’ve been buying some new old stock points off Ebay, [for Mercruiser] so I can get some good ones. I don’t know what we will do when all this stuff comes from China! Better stock up I guess.

                        As stated, try to use OMC/BRP parts whenever possible. They may cost a bit more but fit perfectly and are of high quality.

                        Soon I’ll be posting about a recent adventure using Sierra coils and points in a three horse Johnson. Never again!
