        HAPPY NEW YEAR!

You forgot the cost of the new boots and wires, Brent.

The oiler is there, it is just perfectly hidden in the photo. Thanks for the offer, Steve. But what I am missing is the high speed knob. $24 at Marine Engine…ouch! I am also in need of the rubber seal that goes around the control plate. And the throttle plate is pretty faded, if anyone has a source for those.

It looks to me like there are only three nuts holding the power head on. Am I right about that, or have I missed some? And what tool do you use to reach them?

        Thanks.

I think I have a extra high speed knob if you don’t find one.

Here’s the grommet for the carb plate.

              I’ve never seen this:

Any advice on how to get the threaded stud out?

              Thanks!

I have seen that a number of times. This is from my 1959 Sportwin I recently finished up.

That’s what happens when the pump housing is just forced over the impeller and the impeller isn’t rotated in the proper direction as the housing is placed over it.

The water tube grommet was also mashed into oblivion.

Someone didn’t quite have the finer points of outboard maintenance down when they worked on this one.

That is actually quite common, and happens to all our motors after every run, we just don’t know it.

As the motor is dying off, if it doesn’t quite get over it last compression stroke, it sort of falls backwards, and the impeller blade will flip back as it does so.

There are guys out there that are very anal about this, and after running the motor, will pull out the recoil, and let the compression "bleed off", to ensure that the impeller blades don’t flip backwards like that, then slowly let the recoil retract.

I guess its good practise, but as I but in brand new impellers in my motors every couple years I personally don’t worry about it, UNLESS I know ill be storing the motor for a while on the rack, then I do it.

Another good reason why you don’t turn the flywheel backwards against its normal direction of rotation.
