      new to me 1929 folding N sportwin has a couple of problems.   For background without pictures, the motor is in great shape except for the carb and the magneto.  Does a military coil swap work for these mags, or is there a different type of coil swap to do(haven’t dug into it yet)?  In addition, the carburator has a sort of bakalite plastic covering above where the float is that is not in great shape(albeit somewhat solid) that I may want to replace or enforce, and the chamber where the fuel filter rests in is broken as well as some flaws in the fuel lines including cracks that could cause issues but can probably be repaired with carefully application of Jb weld.  I know it’s a rare motor, but does anybody know where I could find any parts for the carb?

          These motors turn up often enough that I don’t believe they warrant the “rare” designation. That being said, it is a one-year offering, but they did build/sell a bunch of them.

          I keep saying this, but the best source of parts are club members. I don’t know how many people who participate on this board are paid-up members of the AOMCI, but I’d suggest that if you are one of those folks, and you’re looking for parts, start attending club events or get to know people who do and are willing to help you in your search for whatever is needed. We used to have a very good vendor of antique outboard motor parts but he has gotten out of the business and I don’t know of anyone who has stepped in to fill the void.

          The military coils can be adapted to almost any antique motor application but it is almost never a simple parts swap, there’s usually some rudimentary fabricating involved for almost every installation. Your easiest swap is another Evinrude coil from that year, since they used the same ignition system on many 1929 Evinrude motors. This one used on a 1929 Fleetwin might even interchange (just an example, not for sale)IMG_4186

              I  will try to show up to as many meets as I can, but I have not been in the hobby long so I have only been to the tomahawk meet.  More concerning than the coil is the condition of the carburator.  I’ll probably post a classifieds to try to find one soon.

                Post a photo of your carb. It might be a commonly used model that won’t be hard to find

                  The coil in these seem to hold up. Care must be taken not to break the bakelite insulators. They can swell up a little over time and may not want to come out. This is how I replaced the plug wires. Carburetor substitute come from later Neptune’s. They show up on eBay from time to time. Can’t find the number just now.                     Might the carb number be the Tilleston MS4B?
