How many different versions was there of Gale 12 hp power heads?
The one I’m looking for to fix my 1951 is like the wedge head below.
The other one, which looks newer is said to be a 1948, and with the
model number given on Ebay, I confirmed that.
I know they had 12 hp Gale’s into the late 50’s and perhaps
later. Were the later ones there again different? Thanks!

July 19, 2018 at 5:21 pm #79726There were only two main styles of 12hp powerheads, the wedge head as shown in your first picture, and a modified 15hp J/E. The second one you show isn’t a 12hp at all. That’s a 35hp.
July 19, 2018 at 7:40 pm #79730Was it only Gale that used the wedge block? Or did OMC make one as well?

July 20, 2018 at 1:07 am #79753I’m looking for the wedge hedge style power head.
I was curious how many different versions of the 12 hp
they made. I thought at least 3,until you mentioned the
one on EBay wasn’t even close to a 12 hp!As I’m browsing Tomahawk, the more important question
might be, what year did they switch over to the newer
style power head?Prepare to be boarded!
July 20, 2018 at 1:25 am #79754They made both at the same time for several years.
July 20, 2018 at 1:50 am #79757Maybe I need to retract that statement. Looks like the wedge head was discontinued and replaced in 1954.
July 20, 2018 at 10:27 am #79764I know for sure this PW version was used on 1960-1963 Gale 15 and on the following Evinrude/Johnson Worktwin 15 sold in Europe until 1968.
