Guys,
I have good reports from this cap .22uf new @ $1.30 new ea.
Go to Newark Electronics, Next enter in this part 179-1607 which is Newarks part number for the Visay cap.Get together with a friend cause shipping is $20.00 min. Hope it helps someone!October 4, 2015 at 6:53 am #25096Are those shipped from the U.K.?
October 4, 2015 at 1:54 pm #25109Those are good replacement capacitors. I have used them. Jeff had done extensive research in identifying these as ideal for magneto applications. They are small in size and cylindrical (co-axial) shaped, so if you are interested in doing a "visually correct" restoration, the Vishay cap will likely fit into the original metal capacitor can.

October 4, 2015 at 3:18 pm #25113I agree. They are a great product and I have several running motors with them installed now.
Digikey supplied mine and they have a warehouse in Toronto so shipping was super fast!

October 4, 2015 at 3:46 pm #25116Mumbles,
Are the ones you bought 0.1uf?
October 4, 2015 at 8:59 pm #25126Chris,
That model cap has them listed. Go to Newark Electronics & in the part window enter 179-167. Scroll down the page to the spec sheet & it will show all of the caps MKP1839 model made. The trick is finding a distributer that stocks the .1uf cap. That may take some time.
I too have had good luck with them. Mumbles: Mine were shipped from South Carolina but we have a office in Phoenix Arizona too under Tempe Arizona.Tempe is next door to Phx. MKP 1839 is Vishay’s part number, 179-167 is Newark’s part number. We bought .22uf caps among others. $1.30 each + 20 bucks ship per order. Get together with Joe for a order together to spread around the ship shock!!! 😀
Be sure your cap has a suffix of "HQ" . This means high quality & without the HQ listing will not function as wellOctober 4, 2015 at 11:52 pm #25133what’s this talk about .1uf ?? if you check out the spec sheets, the great majority of outboards as well as other motors with similar magnetos use a capacitor that is in the range of .22 uf.
Joe BOctober 5, 2015 at 1:01 am #25137Sorry, I didn’t want .1uf
When I clicked on the link Mumbles posted, the spec sheet said it was .1uf? Unless Im reading it wrong. Im near Toronto so that is very convenient for me, but wanted to make sure they were .22uf before I bought them.
October 5, 2015 at 2:14 am #25145Chris,
That is what Joe & I are going to get this time, all .22uf caps. Get together with us to save all of us shipping. Newark charges $20.00 per order. If we split the order 4 ways we get them for $1.30 each & 5 bucks each for shipping charges. We all can get more for our money if we have 4 or 5 guys in the order. They do stock the .22uf caps too. I also looked & Digitkey had no HQ suffex caps & the price was much moer. You NEED the High Quality suffix cap to stay working! I researched this cap forward & backward a few times so I would not steer anyone wrong.October 6, 2015 at 6:34 am #25216Hey Chris, that was just an old link to Digi-Key I had saved.
When I bought the caps from them, I got a variety of them in 0.10, 0.15 and 0.22 uF ratings so I could cover lots of motors. The 0.15’s can be doubled up to give a 0.3 rating needed for some pre-war Johnsons and Big Fours while the 0.10’s are used in the Pal and Ranger style mags and 20’s Johnsons. Scotts like the 0.15’s to.
If you live in Canada, you might want to check the current exchange rate before buying anything from the US and you will pay GST and PST if you order from Digi-Key.
