Have you ever taken something apart and stared at it’s little heap of parts and know in your heart that there is no way you are capable of ever putting it back together again?

I picked up a 1951 Evinrude 3.3 and tinkered with it most of the morning. I finally got spark and felt all impressed with myself and then took the carb off. Some very sick person designed that thing. He probably went on to a successful career at Mercury. There is no way I will ever get it back together again.

        Now, now that’s no attitude.

We know you can do it just looking at the photos you took before you took it apart!

Yeah. About that. I mentioned I was feeling proud of myself, right?

Yeeha that looks like a handful! You know their a challenge when you start sweating and making up new words while your attempting reassembly. Thank god for digital cameras!

Yep. That’s it. I probably should have just tried to start it. Carb wasn’t too gunked up. It might have run. Probably won’t ever run again now.

Nah,i’ve felt that way more then a few times myself when working on some of my old johnsons but usually after sweatin, cursin, and panicking it manages to go back together and then actually run much to my surprise! You gotta approach it with the attitude of well it doesn’t work now so whats the worse that can happen and just jump into it,before you know it it will be back together.

We’ve all been there, done that. You could probably find a carb by posting in the ‘wanted’ section of the website. Then it’s your choice whether you just want to put the ‘new’ carb on or use it as a guide to put your old one back together.

Ranks right up there as one of the worst things that ever came out of Evinrude. Just my opinion.

Last night I never would have believed this would happen. Thanks so much for the pictures of the carb Buccaneer.
