This is a follow up to a earlier post about the same subject. The engine is leaking oil up the drive shaft and coming out just below the power head. The parts manual shows a seal and spring at the bottom of a 5″ alum tube 43 300 769. I ordered the seal part number and received what is called a boot. The only place the boot fits is inside the 5″ tube on the top end, which is flared. The drive shaft fits snuggly thru the boot, and the boot fits snuggly inside the alum tube, It seems like the drive shaft will spin the boot, and alum tube

I am looking for someone that has used this boot. to create the oil seal. Also what type of grease did you use in the lower unit.
Thanks for any help you can provide

It’s been too long since I’ve worked on mine, and I can’t find any photos
of my lower unit apart. Did find a photo of a seal extractor for one,
        not that it will help!
I’m guessing most people either use Lubriplate 105 or
        John Deeere cornhead grease.

        Prepare to be boarded!
