Frederic, I own a 1937 SM. The operators manual is a soft copy found on the internet. You can download the pages I posted to your computer and print as many copies as you need.

Ok, now I have a “copy” of the owners manual. Thank you again WB and other responders. I now realize that my gasoline cap does NOT have a VENT-Screw. Perhaps this is NOT the original gas cap thought it does appear to be vintage and it fits perfectly. I presume that without the vent screw open (as instructed in the operation manual) the motor will quit on me once it is going because a vacuum will be created in the gas tank as gas in burned during operation…is this true? If yes, does anyone have a extra gas cap for a Bendix Eclipse TMD 1939 for sale ??? 😉

That sure looks like a vent screw atop of your gas cap???

Yes, in the pictures that I posted there appears to be the “correct” cap…I see that now. However, when he sent me the outboard it came with a DIFFERENT gas cap WITHOUT the vent screw. I never noticed this switch up until right now. It was never an issue because I haven’t had the desire to get this motor running until now and I never had an owners manual that brought my attention to this problem. See attached pics of gas cap that came with the motor. Thank you.

I think the vent screw was cut off of your fuel cap. I bet it would work as is, but it will leak gas if you place the motor on it’s side. For reference, this is what it should look like. As you can see yours has had the nickel plating polished off.

Thank you Wayne. Does anyone have a “correct” full cap with working vent screw for a Bendix Eclipse TMD? Eric

A vise grips might tell the truth, then you could
find or make a new vent screw.
