The model number and serial number are what I am looking for. I’ve had several different Johnson motors and have always found those
numbers – either on the plate on the flywheel or on the side of the powerhead; except a DT 38, and the model number and serial number on
that was on the cast cover. The motor I am inquiring about has the same block as the DT 38, however the lower unit, carburetor and rear
mounted fuel tank are the same as an AT10, and LT39, both 5hp motors, and has a recoil. I wonder if it is an LT38 4.2hp motor.
Still below 0 in the garage and I haven’t gotten photos yet.

Well, if there is no serial number on the block, it may be a replacement power head. I guess we’ll have to wait for a picture. Below 0 in the garage? Where the heck do you live? Northern Ontario?

The reason I wrote in in the first place was to find out where the model # and serial# might be. Most Johnsons have these numbers on the side of the engine block and on the plate above the flywheel when there is no recoil. This motor has a different block with the usual tank on
the rear, the usual carburetor and lower unit. Can’t find the model number or serial number.

I am trying to locate the model number and serial number – haven’t found it on the motor, and thought perhaps someone might know
how to find the model number and serial number. If I could give the serial number, I would, but can’t find it. That is what I have been
searching for to identify it. Thought it might be a LT38 with a recoil as it appears to have a powerhead that is 4.2hp, the rest being the
same as a 5hp, lower unit, carburetor, and rear mounted fuel tank.

Live in Minnesota, and right now it is cold as hell. Believe the powerhead on this motor is the same as a DT38, a 4.2hp, and a Johnson powerhead. Just not a 5hp. The rest – lower unit, carburetor, rear mounted tank, and yes, flywheel and magneto -and yes, recoil, are
all just like an AT10. It got up to -2 this afternoon. Ice fishing is good.
