<yawn> no such trouble on a rowboat motor..
He's livin' in his own private Idaho..... I hope to go out quietly in my sleep, like my grand-dad did..... and not screaming, like the passengers in his car...
June 8, 2016 at 10:53 pm #37946Oh yeah, and I AM an engineer (for 17 years)… 😎 and I say the same thing all the time.

classicomctools@gmail.comJune 8, 2016 at 10:54 pm #37948Once you get the hang of the two screw driver tango to re-start the nut you will never touch that rewind again. That motor hadn’t been out in production for two years before an old mechanic showed me the knock off trick. I have never forgot it. Long narrow flat blade screw drivers are the trick to starting the nut back on. Actually knocking the nut on & off is the easy part. I have a small dull punch that doesn’t even mark up the nut too bad.

June 8, 2016 at 11:07 pm #37949Yet another ‘designed for assembly’ example.
I still wake up screaming after dreaming of reassembling the throttle linkage on a ’90s 9.9 Force. Those designers must have stayed up REALLY late to come up with that one..June 8, 2016 at 11:24 pm #37952Yeah, I always have done it like Fisherman 6 and Chris P….
Long live American manufacturing!
June 9, 2016 at 12:03 am #37953Hi Dan,
I have done the two screwdriver tango to start nuts on quite a few carbs including this one and a few other hard to access things I have worked on. That works great! I have also used the punch to loosen and tighten nuts. My grandpa taught me that one when I was a wee tot. I just had an easier time tilting the recoil back on these motors. I like to have the access and it’s pretty simple to do, just take care not to turn that spring loose. 😮

June 9, 2016 at 1:09 am #37957I’m with you Richard. Those sidewinders never did much for me.
June 9, 2016 at 1:27 am #37958I use a right angle open end wrench and preferrably the miniature sized ones.

June 9, 2016 at 12:18 pm #37975The first couple were quite a problem. I loosen the recoil and remove it’s mounting bolts. Move it forward to remove the carb cam and it’s mounting screw. Now, I can loosen the carb nut with a wrench.
Replacing the carb nuts by positioning them with a dental pick. Then they can be properly tightened with a wrench. Now just drop the cam follower and back up washer a few times before tightening and you are nearly done. -
