      I have repowered my Penn Yan with a 1970 Evinrude 60, which has the Hydro Electric gearbox and controls. I’m restoring the control box; stripped and repainted, new decals, etc.  I’ve found a new roller switch on ebay (there’s a guy 3-D printing them; nice switch). I would like to also wire in an emergency cut-off switch. I have one that clips to your PFD which pulls out and connects the circuit and shorts out the motor if you go overboard. I assume I can wire the two wires to the back of the ignition switch, but not sure which two posts to wire it to. My prior motor was an old Lark II with a magneto ignition; for that one I ran the switch between the two magneto wires on the back of the ignition switch, but this motor and switch is different. Any guidance from anyone would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

          Great info Crosbyman. The kill wire is black with a yellow tracer to clarify.

          BLACK = Battery negative
          BLACK with YELLOW stripe = KILL Switch (grounded to stop engine)

              I appreciate the responses, thank you.  I studied the attachment provided by the link, and it doesn’t seem to correlate with my wiring; there is no black with yellow stripe in the harness at either end; under the cover at the motor or at the ignition switch. I tried to upload a couple pictures, but the 2 MB max file size does not allow the picture I took on my iphone of the switch and of the 1970 Evinrude Service Manual wiring diagram that I have for the Triumph 60.  Is it possible to wire the cutoff switch between any of the posts on the ignition switch? Essentially I’m looking for the same response as turning the key to off. Thanks.

                if you piggy back on the switch wires you should be able to recreate the  kill condition but.. not having the exact  wire diagram is a  flip of the coin.   the  pictoral   “secondary doc. link”  document in the link  above  above shows various key functions which  your key switch should duplicate.

                try googling your engine model wire diagram

                  OK, this engine has battery CD ignition, no black/yellow stop wire used here.

                  The best way would be to put a safety switch in between the battery B+ post and the lead connected to it…  That being said, I don’t recommend doing this, unless you use a rugged/reliable switch and do the wiring in a way where it won’t break/get chafed, etc.  There is not much room inside that box…

                    You are right…

                    This engine uses “battery CD” ignition…  It needs battery B+ to engergize the powerpack…  So, that is the circuit that must be interrupted with the safety switch.    See my comments below though…
