At first I said to myself "that’s not an antique tool!" 😳

The same seller is offering a puller that looks similar to an OMC but at a cheaper price. Even so, I’ll probably just stick with my harmonic balancer puller.

It wouldn’t have moved the #4 piston on my MK55. but look at my ad for the other 3 pistons – pretty nice shape. I broke out the top of the cylinder / put one of my trucks front tires on the block and pounded on the piston with a block of wood and 2lb. hammer. Before I got the piston out, I remembered that the cyl. sleeves are steel, so the block can’t be scrapped as alum. It’s such a shame, that motor could have been rebuilt a long time ago, but now the block and crank are junk!

Will the schrader valve hold up to the pressure if using a grease gun?

Seems so barberic to slam it like that! Seems a quite a shame to destroy it.

Just looking at the safety aspect. I witnessed the effects of high pressure on soft tissue before.

If you’re talking about the Mark 55 block, I had the exact same situation. Believe me, sometimes those pistons are just not going to budge, no matter WHAT. In my case, I actually cut the block off the piston. This was more a matter of determination than common sense; as I knew the crank would be no good too…..and it wasn’t any good. At least I got three good pistons and rods for my effort. Better than junking the whole long block.

As for the tool, it looks well made. I agree that the Shraeder valve may not handle 1000 psi but maybe you’re supposed to switch the valve and the fitting as needed?

                  Long live American manufacturing!

He also lists one with a grease zerk similar to one I made out of old spark plug. You’d be surprised how much hydraulic pressure a heavy duty grease gun puts out. If that doesn’t get the piston out, nothing will.

I got 3 great piston and rods too, just went about it a different way. I was able to get the rod caps off and remove the 3 good pistons before destroying everything else. I had 3 beautiful journals on the crank, but 3 out of 4 IS bad!
