April 8, 2016 at 9:21 pm #34539I rebuilt one of these little guys last summer, fun project. I took the carb off and completely cleaned all of the passages, resealed the cork float with airplane dope, replaced the fuel pump plunger washers, new gaskets from carb to block. Make sure you replace the gaskets right way-there are 2 different ones and you don’t want to block off a cooling passage. Disassemble and clean the piston pump cooling system on the lower unit-make sure all the parts are there-especially the 2 little check balls-without them it wont work. I used lubriplate 105 grease to fill the bottom end. See if you have spark-if not pull the recoil and flywheel off and clean points, check to see if coil was good-mine wasn’t and needed a replacement. Make sure you use the right plugs which are j8j’s-careful when you install the rear spark plug cover so you don’t hit the top of the plugs. The carb on mine is super touchy and took a while to get right on low and high speed adjustments. All I can think of right now,if you have any other questions give a shout.
April 9, 2016 at 12:24 am #34550good advice so far and should get you going but also check the gas tank for residue/varnish. A little laquer thinner and shake with screws (drywall ons are sharp and do a good job). This is a pleasant little motor …Brian
April 9, 2016 at 8:18 pm #34584😀 thanks for all your great advice made a lot of progress today on the motor , A few more questions , on the magnetos there is a spring loaded pin seems to rub underneath the flywheel like an electric motor brush on the Armature what does that do? and I am missing one does that have conductivity? Is it possible for me to make one ? The lower unit has a fill and drain plug most people suggested using grease it does have a gasket should I use grease or lower unit lube?
April 9, 2016 at 8:31 pm #34585April 9, 2016 at 9:55 pm #34590those 2 spring loaded "pins" are brushes and yes they have conductivity and you really need them both. You might be able to make one if your handy,i’m not positive what they were made out of now, maybe delron? Did you check for spark and if so was it only one side that had it? Is the spring still in the pin socket? I’d be using the lubriplate 105 grease in there instead of reg. lower unit lube if it were mine. I pulled the carb gasket template sheet out today if you still want a copy.
April 10, 2016 at 12:34 pm #34630Yes, each pin services a cylinder, as far as spark delivery.
April 10, 2016 at 2:15 pm #34639Yes I surprisingly have spark in both. Cylinders. The spring is still in the Magneto i can easily make a a pin as soon I find outt what it’s made of? Thanks you said delron maybe? Also will use 105 lube in year case, yes please send the gasket patterns 😀 thanks
April 10, 2016 at 8:27 pm #34651I need your address to send out the gasket sheet, havent got your pm? And yes I was thinking delron would work.
