Hello all, a little back story. After my grandfather passed away i took this out of his basement. According to my father he could never get it running. So now, its my challenge. However, im not the most mechanically incline – this is my first attempt at working on a motor. So, here i am.

Ive been able get down to the stator plate. The magnet on top seems stuck, and i dont know how to get it off. Heres a couple pictures: http://imgur.com/a/mwSzMuU

The small brass or copper ring comes off but i cant figure out how to get the magnet and stator plate off. I loosened the bolt that pinches the plate, but nothing is budging.

      Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Magnet has to come off first. There actually was a special tool for that, but I never had one, nor needed one. A gently pry on both sides with a couple of screwdrivers to rock it up and off usually does it. Now, if it is corroded on there, that is a different story.

Frank is right, the magnet will come off with careful prying. Before you go much further, the coils and condensers on these motors are many times still good. You may be able to just clean and reset the points and get good spark.

Ha… yeah, guess ill try harder. So i tried a spark test and got nothing. Ill have to get my elctrotestermagnometer thingy. That way i at least know where the problem is.
