I have replaced the condensors and polished the points to a mirror finish adjusted them to 0.020 checked and reset them 3 times checked coils with ohm meter. Plug wires are new occasionally will get a white spark on the lower cyl upper nothing at all. Any suggestions where to start checking?

how is it motors multiply when the garage lights get
turned off?August 2, 2015 at 2:16 am #21410Being a prewar motor with iron magnets, they are probably weak and will need recharging.
August 2, 2015 at 2:26 am #21411had been wondering if the magnets could be weak

Take your flywheel against another later flywheel to see if your iron magnets pull as strong as the late model magnets. Hope they pull as hard too!!August 2, 2015 at 2:35 am #21414The caps for that motor should read .22uF so a standard OMC/BRP 580321 one could be adapted if they are bad. Or, you could go with the Orange Drop or Vishay capacitors.
August 2, 2015 at 3:59 am #21418plug wire to ground is 6.23k ohms on each coil. The condensers that are in there at the moment were a couple of new ones from napa that are for a 60s Chevy. Worked well when I used them on an 4hp A-50 last year so figured that would work on this one. Will have to pull the flywheel off of another motor to compare the strength of a newer magnet.

August 2, 2015 at 7:45 am #21424You said that you polished the points real well. Did you take an ohm meter reading of just the points after you did this? They should be well under 1 ohm.
August 2, 2015 at 7:02 pm #21444never thought to check points with a meter will try and check that this afternoon
