I have a light four that needs the carb cleaned. I am trying to remove the cover over the float bowl but there is a spring and “cap” of some sort preventing me from taking it off. I have attached a pic. How do I get this cover off to get access to the float bowl.

      Thank you for your help

Unscrew the brass plug at the bottom of the carb and hold a dowel or pencil in there to keep the float pin up.  Then push down on the outside cup to expose the pin holding in the retainer.  Slide the pin out with pliers, and watch for flying parts.

Thank you Tom. After removing the pin, the retainer still would not come off.  With the use of a needle nose pliers I was able to pull up on the retainer removing it. Unfortunately, it broke off the very tip of the needle.

The retainer must have been really stuck.  Measure and post the overall length of the float pin before it broke, maybe we can match something up.  Or someone will chime in with some Lightfour parts.  I don’t know if the pin is the same as the Zephyr.

Ya, this carb is pretty gummed up and smells horrible from old gas. At least I can clean it now.

The needle is 2 1/2″ long. Below is a pic. Looks like I will need one. Can anyone provide one?

Here’s a manual for a Zephyr carb. It also aspplies to a Light Four carb.
