Hi AOMCI Fam.,
I am a new member to the group. I’m trying to search for all discussion topics centered around a 1955 Johnson Seahorse, RD-17C, 25 HP.
What is the best way to search forums for historical posts/discussions? Really appreciate all/any input or guidance on how to best navigate the website.

August 7, 2023 at 2:24 pm #278925Hello Marcel and welcome! Can you tell us a little more about your project like model number, its general condition, is the motor running, is it stuck. There are some very knowledgeable members on this site. There’s no outboard problem they can’t fix. Post some pictures, you might need to resize them. I crop my pictures down some to post. Sometimes the website just won’t accept pictures. Try again later then it does, no one knows why! We all on this site have the same thing in common we love old outboards. Some guys like the real old timers, me I like the classics 1950/to/1960. Looking forward to your project.

Marcell, Since you are a Member….you can search in the “Member Only” area. Click on “MEMBERS ONLY” above and then click on “ACTIVE MEMBER FORUM”.
Use the Search field that you see on that page. Works pretty well and is a Member benefit.

August 9, 2023 at 7:18 am #279004Always best to start with the basics. Take a compression test, and drain/inspect the gear lube. Remove both large flat head drain screws (one is hidden underneath the gearcase snout) and see what drains out. Do not remove that phillips head screw, or the shift linkage will fall apart inside the gearcase. Dark colored lube is OK, but milky colored lube spells trouble, as does raw water or not lube at all draining out. Feel free to post pictures of your engine with any questions or concerns you have.

August 13, 2023 at 7:14 pm #279181Thank you guys for the helpful tips/info! I have been working on a 1955 Johnson Seahorse RD-17C 25 HP. Finally after two years of no luck, the motor final works! I had a carb that just wasn’t working after loads of restoring efforts. I’m really just looking to read more about the motor, see what others have struggled with, some fine tuning guidance and also would love to hear what folks are getting for speed/performance. Looking forward to going through the forums!
