Tubs, finished the conversion and I have spark! Nice not hard but some work for sure.
Another question about the lower unit oil/ grease….should I use grease or the lubriplate? The lower unit not very water tight by the looks of it. Think normal grease less likely to flow out then lubriplate? Does it matter?October 26, 2019 at 12:36 pm #185921disregard

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

October 26, 2019 at 5:09 pm #185934Ok lubriplate it is then. Can’t find corn head grease around here.
Another question. Adjusting the points on this thing. What is the best procedure? Is it cylinder one tdc ? Where should the spark advance lever be? I think it’s 0.020 (spark plug 0.030?). I need a quick run down please.
I hope I’m not trying everybody’s patience but this is my first close to 100 year old motor. I like it.
October 27, 2019 at 8:08 am #185954Most of the time all you have to do is clean the points and set them at .020.Doesn’t matter where mag handle is as long as they are fully open. Then you can look at bottom rim of fly wheel and find a factory mark, single groove. When points are just about to open, this should align with a similar mark on mag plate bottom. The mark on the mag plate is about 1/2 inch from the handle. If the marks don’t align exactly it will still run fine.
October 27, 2019 at 9:24 am #185956Ok thanks Stanley
