Saw an ad on Craigslist for 1976 Evinrude 9.9hp motor…..40 bucks. For forty bucks, it worth checking out.

The guys said he could never get it run right and he even took it to a mechanic and he said it still didn’t run right. He said the motor had sat in his garage for years.

He said he had the points and the external coils changed. I tested all 3 coils and they tested fine. Compression is 120 top and 122 on the bottom.

I did a thorough ignition check and cleaned the points and setting them correctly. The point were off and spark plugs were barely gapped.

The fuel pump had a crack in it and allow fuel to drip and probably allow air to be suctioned in. Replaced the fuel pump cover with a spare and good to go.

Connected it to the fuel tank and after 3 pulls, she started. She starts on first pull now.

Those are the kinds of deals that can sure help to finance the hobby. Up here that 9.9 would easily bring $500.00, which of course being found money could go directly into the vintage motor buying/restoring /fixing account. Great Score!!
