My QD19 is down for the count
I have an FD11 with the lower pivot bushing shot or missing… i’m afraid using this motor in its current state will damage the upper bushing or casting.
Do you guys think it’s OK to use?
It’s been raining here all spring long. the next two days look like beautiful weather and I NEED to get out fishing.
Oh, does anyone know the part number so could order one?
Thanks
July 2, 2017 at 6:20 pm #60828Hmmm, this seems like an odd condition to me….
I don’t want to say it is OK to use, the engine might become hard to steer at higher speeds….
Probably best to have a donor engine/midsection so you will have everything you need, minimizing down time.
The good news is that the stern bracket/pivot tube comes off the engine pretty easily….Just the three mount nuts up above and splitting the clam shell at the bottom…The only thing you have to worry about is breaking those mounts while removing the nuts….
Again, it is best to have a donor midsection…Might be easier to just switch out the midsection assembly, even though the colors don’t match…This way, you can use the engine this summer…
You can go back to the original pieces during the winter….
Hope this helps. But, again, this is an odd failure for these engines, the steering could jam….
Hopefully, a local club member has a donor midsection. I’m sure I do, but am probably not close to you in Rhode Island…DonJuly 2, 2017 at 6:41 pm #60831The FD 11 and the QD 19 do not use the same part for the lower pivot bushing. Send me a PM regarding availability of the QD 19 lower pivot bushing p/n 303370. The p/n for the FD11 is 308841. I did misread your first post. The shock absorber is also available. Ed
July 2, 2017 at 7:45 pm #60839One has to wonder where it went? Has somebody had it apart? If I’m not mistaken, I believe it is rubber, and normally would last forever.
July 2, 2017 at 7:57 pm #60842July 2, 2017 at 8:06 pm #60845I bought the motor from a collector in very good condition. Everything is tight on this motor. But there’s a lot of slop in that bottom bushing
He claims he’s never had this motor apart for anything and all the time he’s had It.
Do some of these motors have an extraordinary amount of slop in this joint? I can move it off of its axis by 3/16 of an inch.
It’s almost as if there’s no bushing inside whatsoever.
I would have to assume that this motor has been apart at one time and the bushing forgotten or just plain old worn right out …this motor is so clean I would be surprised if it was worn out

July 2, 2017 at 11:10 pm #60855Fine if you can buy the part new. If not, try a bearing house for equal or similar that you can modify. For Mercs, I have found PVC pipe sections or couplings that I can fit. Here’s another plumbing part that works with some mods. Good luck.

Really appreciate your help Chris, please let me know if you come up with one. Does not have to be new.
I actually ended up taking the boat out tonight. No heavy turns no big hole shots. Everything worked out OK though I feel much better having it fixed
