We have an LT 39 where the ring gaps on one piston are aligned (not staggered) and happen to be visible through an exhaust port. We’re assuming this may not be the ideal configuration but would it pose any issues to running the motor? Any concerns with adjusting the ring gap back to a staggered pattern and potentially interrupting the wear pattern?
May 29, 2019 at 3:45 am #176217YES – Having gap like that increases tne the ikelihood of the end catching and breaking the piston and scoring the cylinder. It could have been sold because some one was pushing on it to see if in was stuck and broke it .

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

My Mercury KF5 has no stagger for ring ends. Had to get magnifying glass to be sure looking for the guide pins in the lands. Three little pins in a perfect 90 degree drop.
