Yeah and fiche doesn’t lock up and crash like Bill Gates’ creation.
Long live American manufacturing!
April 1, 2016 at 11:49 pm #34196Again, I’ll be getting a website up with the original motor parts manuals scanned in, and you will be able to look up part numbers and where they are used in every motor. This won’t happen until the fall or the winter, this is the busy time of the year for me.
You can’t do that on any website right now. When you look for a part number, all it does is show the item, not where it is used. Boats.net does a little bit of this but falls well short for small parts. Boats.net does not show parts schematics in general either.
IT WILL BE FREE AND SUPPORTED BY DONATIONS.
April 2, 2016 at 4:39 am #34198Great, it will be free then! Hope somebody helps out. Looking forward to that. Had it as an OMC employee, but not back to the old stuff. Just 1968.

April 2, 2016 at 4:49 am #34200My scans start at 1942 and go to 1983 right now, and then I have sporadic years up to 2006. The interesting stuff (I believe) will be the other brands and manuals I’ve acquired, which is a pig & a poke like all of us, but that’s what the free sharing is supposed to be about.
And your contributions will surely make folks happy, thanks Dan.
April 2, 2016 at 3:15 pm #34206quote t2stroke:Guess it’s time to get the old Eastman Kodak micro fiche reader out. (Big unit) I have had it forever. It goes back to 1952 Johnson and 1954 Evinrude (or vice versa). Anybody ever work on one of those machines? A few years ago something broke inside and it doesn’t focus well anymore. The sliders don’t move well either, but just figure it needs a good cleaning. Looks like I am going to need it. Better than parts books, but still slower than computer.
I noticed that ME had quit ’55 & ’56 about a week ago. If you have the part number, they still have the part. Not sure why they would do that? I don’t think it would have anything to do with BRP. I get my parts from Seaway in Seattle, WA. A lot of ME parts are drop shipped from there. When it takes a long time for you to get your parts that is why sometimes or they had to order from BRP. Just my opinion.Dan in TN
Hahahahahaha 😀 :D. I remember those things. Wow that was a long time ago, since I’ve seen them in the auto parts stores.
April 2, 2016 at 3:19 pm #34207My dealer still has a fiche system for older motors. (50’s)
The new guy behind the parts counter doesn’t have a clue how to use it!
April 2, 2016 at 3:44 pm #34210Jim,
I believe this is common any more. Bet most can’t use a truck trans any more either. We learned how to drive with a 1950 Ford in the desert sitting on the dash going in reverse. My brother worked the petals. We are losing an element of America & learning to stare at a phone too. I too have had negative results with this vendor too. I’m moving on & taking the hit of never sent parts & NEVER going back either! Too bad they are that way. 😮April 2, 2016 at 3:44 pm #34211Well, microfiche was used way back in the 1900’s!
(Used them in college before the internet myself 😎 )
April 4, 2016 at 1:07 am #34289See if this helps, check archive.org and see what is accessible.

There is a slider at the top right to adjust the date. Go back and look in the past and see if you can locate any manuals.
April 6, 2016 at 2:30 am #34403Here are a couple of parts pdf files I have.
