Hello all, I have a merc Mark 5 shift motor with a broken tank bezel/trim and are trying to use a super 5 tank and bezel, I’m thinking there’s a difference between the two. My question is is there a difference between the two other than maybe the tank is notched under the tank of the mark 5 for the shifting linkage. I can’t get the tank to sit right, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any pics of the two tanks side by side to see the difference.

the tanks are the same. only difference may be the filter and cap on the older ones was small 1/8 pipe in tank as opposed to a filter with the same threads as the larger cap.

We are out there but for me I want more hp. Mark 5 is like the KF5 in many ways as well. I shy away from them after building one. Carls engineering at it’s best.

I have a Super 5 with a Mark 5 protective ring because that is all I could find at the time. They are exactly the same. You may have to nudge it a bit but it should fit fine.

Its the back bottom edge of the flywheel opening of the tank that hits the shifter assembly, it won’t allow the tank to sit down into the protective ring. This is why i think the tank on the shifter model is modified to allow space for the shift assembly.
